A New Single-Display Intelligent Adaptive Interface for Controlling a Group of UAVs

The increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones in different civil and military operations has attracted attention of many researchers and science communities. One of the most notable challenges in this field is supervising and controlling a group or a team of UAVs by a single user. Thereupon, we proposed a new intelligent adaptive interface (IAI) to overcome to this challenge. ...

Evaluating the impact of Environmental Quality Indicators on the degree of humanization in healing environments

During the last 2 decades, the effects of the physical and social environment on the healing process, recovery and well-being of patients, families and staff in hospitals have been proved. There is a growing recognition that healthcare architecture could do more by promoting overall wellness, and this requires expanding the focus to healing. The research on evidence-based design (EBD) has demonst...

Supporting User-Centered Design of Adaptive User Interfaces Via Interface Models

Model-based development is an emerging technology for the design and specification of interfaces from declarative interface models. Key benefits of this technology are: (a) centralization of all knowledge and data for an interface design in a single representation: the interface model, (b) definition of a user-centered interface development software cycle, (c) architectural support for multiple...

Work-centered Infomediary Layer (WIL): An architecture for adaptive interfaces

Active interfaces that act as infomediaries between underlying systems and their human users offer a rich and comprehensive solution to the pervasive problem of (lack of) usability in computer-based work environments. However, they also pose a substantial technological challenge. The paper describes a novel work-centered active interface architecture, called the Workcentered Infomediary Layer (...

MAUI: a Multimodal Affective User Interface Sensing User’s Emotions based on Appraisal Theory - Questions about Facial Expressions..

We are developing a Multimodal Affective User Interface (MAUI) framework shown in Figure 1 and described in [5], aimed at recognizing its users emotions by sensing their various user-centered modalities (or modes), and at giving the users context-aware feedback via an intelligent affective agent by using different agent-centered modes. The agent is built on an adaptive system architecture which...
